Sooner or later. As long as the team continues to hustle, play hard, and never quit it was going to happen. It happened tonight as CMU battled Kent State for 40 minutes...... to a tie. Then they took it to them to win by 5 in OT. Nice to see the guys finally get a W for all their efforts. They have stuck with it, game after game, never giving up. Battling from double digit deficits, getting oh so close. Tonight, Kent State was unable to stop the inevitable. Chips won 78-73. John Simon was an enigma. Constantly giving up shots at the rim he was struggling at the defensive end. Guys drove by him numerous times. He just couldn't maintain a good defensive position. Offensively he was just the opposite. He found his shot and just kept hammering the Golden Flashes. He had it going and he knew it. So, he racked up 3 pointers. He carried the offense.
Fowler struggled on O as KSU dared him to go left. The defender actually stood at a 45 degree angle in front and to the right of Fowler. He wasn't going to his right, no matter how much he wanted to. He was invited to go left, time after time. It caused issues, but he hung in. The one thing that will come out of this season for Fowler is that he will learn to handle this. Once he does, look out. He will go left or right and score at will.
The press started to show signs of effectiveness in the first half. In the second it was a real problem for KSU. Several steals, layups, and turnovers were the result of the press that is ever improving. KSU took 3 timeouts just to talk about the press. That's being effective.
Congratulations fellas. The constant effort, never quit, belief in yourselves has finally been rewarded. A much deserved win has been achieved. Now, how many can you add before the end of the regular season?
FIRE UP CHIPS!!!
