Running backs Ward and Gwilly have big games to lead their team to a win. Buczkowski helps Mt. Pleasant clinch a playoff berth and Hergott helps the Bluebirds earn a second consecutive win.
Here is a rundown of how CMU commits did last week:
Mt. Pleasant RB/LB Hunter Buczkowski - Mt. Pleasant 42 - Central 7
Another monster performance from Buczkowski helped his Oilers clinch a playoff berth this year. He had 8 carries for 112 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also caught a 54-yard touchdown pass. It was business as usual on the defense as he led the team with 15 total tackles.
Clintondale DE Joshuwa Eldridge - Clintondale 22 - Fitzgerald 26
The Dragons fell to 4-4 on the season with a tough loss at Fitzgerald last Friday night. The loss will most likely knock Clintondale out of playoff contention. Individual stats for Eldridge were unavailable after the game.
Utica RB Kumehnnu Gwilly - Utica 27 - Port Huron 20
Running back Kumehnnu Gwilly got back on track this week with a huge game to help his team improve to 4-4 on the season. Gwilly carried the ball 20 times for 190 yards while scoring three touchdowns on the ground.
Mumford WR Tee'Ondre Harvey - Mumford 12 - Cass Tech 47
For the second straight week Mumford had to face a top ranked team, and were unable to come away with a win again. Mumford fell to 3-5 on the season, but Harvey was able to get his team on the board with a touchdown catch in the game. Final stats for Mumford were unavailable.
Highlands (Kentucky) QB Austin Hergott - Highlands 14 - Covington Catholic 10
Hergott led the Bluebirds to a second straight win for the first time this season. He was sharp all game, completing 9-of-11 passes for 93 yards in the win. His team trailed 10-0, but a pair of touchdown runs helped Highlands earn its 14th straight win over Covington Catholic. “This is awesome,” Hergott said. “Being here and doing this in this atmosphere is insane.”
Farmington DB Jakkar Jackson - Farmington 44 - Seaholm 35
The Falcons (5-3) got back on the right track this week with a crucial win. Farmington gained 480 yards in the game, and incredibly, 467 of those were on the ground. Jackson contributed with eight carries for 52 yards. He also had one catch for 20 yards and four tackles on defense.
Detroit King DE Leon Page - King 20 - Cody 2
King defeated Cody in the PSL semifinals last Friday night, but have been forced to forfeit the championship after a brawl broke out between the teams. King did not want to shake hands, and Cody went over to their sideline and antagonized King players before a fight broke out. Cody's team has been suspended and so has the entire coaching staff. The PSL ruled that King would forfeit the PSL Championship, which was supposed to be played this Friday at Ford Field against Cass Tech. It's possible to ruling could be overturned, because witnesses say Cody players essentially attacked the King sideline. But for now, King will finish with an 8-1 record, but will rightfully remain ranked as the #1 team in the state. King will be allowed to participate in the playoffs. Players from both teams were suspended for 3 days from school, and King will not be allowed to play in a pre-season scrimmage in 2016. Individual stats from the win against Cody were unavailable.
Bishop McNamara (Illinois) RB Jonathan Ward - Bishop McNamara 41 - St. Ignatius 14
Jonathon Ward set the Bishop McNamara career rushing record last Friday night after carrying the ball 19 times for 224 yard to go along with four touchdowns. His career night helped improve his team's record to 7-1 on the season. "It's amazing," Ward said of the record, which he set with a 16-yard rush. "The feeling hasn't hit me yet. I just try to stay humble about it, and just know that somewhere down the line, someone else better will come. But without the line within the past three years, and all the linemen and all the fullbacks, especially #5 [Jerrico Johnson], it wouldn't be possible. So I give all the credit to them."
