Tonight CMU takes on Toledo in a huge matchup of MAC West powers. Here is why tonight means so much to me personally.
I attended Central Michigan University from 2006-2011. The first four years I went to college I knew one thing, CMU dominated the MAC. The crowds were insane for every home game. Yes, the place emptied at halftime many times, but that's because the Chippewas were blowing teams out. If the game was close, or it was a big matchup (Boston College '06, Ball State '08) then the place stayed packed the whole game.
Tonight mean's so much to me because tonight means so much to this football program. Win or lose, the Chippewas are playing a meaningful game in November, something that never happened in the Dan Enos era. Speaking of the Dan Enos era, tonight is a chance to continue to get rid of thoughts from the past five years. Toledo has beaten CMU five straight years, and we can end that tonight, and continue to phase out Enos like he never happened.
Current students of Central Michigan simply do not realize what its like to root for a good football team, because they've never had it. Waking up, tailgating and going to watch your team kick some ass is one of the best parts of the college experience. If CMU can win tonight, it will go a long way in helping restore the greatness of Kelly/Shorts that once was.
I am so excited for the game tonight because I have a feeling the atmosphere is going to be fantastic. ESPN2, under the lights, a chance to compete for a MAC West title. Tonight has the makings of a good one, and I hope you all can find a way to make it to Mount Pleasant, or at least watch the game from home.
