Good as time as any to discuss the Davis brothers, and in particular Corey Davis and how he ended up at WMU. Speaking for myself, ChippewaCountry is in kind of a rare space in that we actually spoke with Corey during his recruitment and can bank off what he said.
But the question that always gets asked, is "Why didn't CMU recruit Corey Davis?"
Honest question, and CMU did. For better or worse, they did recruit him, but never offered. They really cooled on him by the time I spoke with Corey (December) and I think a big reason was they didn't have any spots left.
Remember, early in his recruitment the Chippewas had secured a commitment from Da'Mario Jones before he was swooned by Michigan and became a Wolverine. CMU received (4) commitments after December, and all four were rumored to be greyshirts at one point in time:
WR Wesley Thomas
ATH Eric Cooper
ATH Gary Jones
OL Shakir Carr
The other key point, Titus was a much better HS prospect than Corey. Titus had better stats, played on a state championship team and had the better speed of the two. Without the coaching change at WMU, Corey probably ends up at Illinois State.
Obviously hindsight is 20/20 and Corey would probably be a Chippewa if they had to do it over again. But this wasn't Corey picking WMU over CMU or anything like that. From what I'm told the two have a great relationship and would have loved to play together. It will be interesting to see what colors the parents are sporting this weekend.
