We're at the half-way point of the season sitting at 3-3, and to say it's been a mixed bag is an understatement.
With that being said, one thing is evident.
Where the heck would this offense be without Rawls and Davis?
If the Syracuse and Kansas game is any indication, we'd be 0-6.
Those two accounted for 80% of the offense in the win against Ohio, they were the best players on the field, and it wasn't even close.
Rush didn't have a tough job on Saturday, Ohio was in single coverage all day trying to minimize Rawls (still failed), and Davis took advantage of it. He was so wide open most of the time, you'd think he was playing against HS DB's.
Considering both are SR's, it makes you wonder where this offense will be next year?
With 6 games left on the schedule, I hope some of the younger guys start to flash some play-making skills.
I'll worry about next year this spring, but I wonder how far our 2 man show on offense can take us.
I'm pretty certain we're looking at 6 wins, but do we have enough to win at NIU and at Buffalo?
Although Ball St. doesn't have a good record, they've had some close games and Lembo (sp?) has made it a habit of out-coaching Enos the past few years.
For us to even have a shot at the division, we'll need to be perfect from here on out, but it certainly looks like it's going to boil down to the games at Buffalo and at NIU to see how far this team can go.
We lose this weekend, and the only goal left is to battle for 3rd in the division, and to try to get to 8 wins.
Although probably undeserved, I don't see how this team doesn't go to a bowl.
There are now enough bowl slots for 76 teams, and the MAC has 4/5 bowl game tie-ins, so 6/7 wins get you to a bowl.
Do we equate this as success though?
Heeke will, but as Alum and fans, do we accept this as success?
I guess that debate can wait, as we'll find out this Saturday evening if our 2 man show on offense can carry us to a win at NIU. If they can, we'll be right there in the thick of the divisional race, if we lose, then we can start to define what would make this season a successful one.
